========================================================= VB vs. C++ ========================================================= was also going to explain something about the Visual Basic Community, but since (almost) everyone is doing that, I'm going to write a new thing quickly. Since TheNExus is down I cannot check if anyone else wrote something similar again. A few weeks ago the traditional fight between VB and C++ started again. And it really annoyes me that if someone asks a question about VB, people say "Get yourself a decent programming language and use VC++". When I see such a thing I'll always ask why person x said this. And I'm explaining why sometims VB is slow. This is often (if not always) the error of the programmer, since in VB you can write slow code easily! Immediatly I get a reply to do a contest which programming language can count up the prime numbers to a specified value. Sorry? I haven't seen any game that uses the prime numbers between 1 to 100.000? Anyway, VB is a good game programming language. for example DDCK: MoC. Great game, many people liked at it and it has been downloaded more than 25.000 times! Brickblast, no very original, but the graphics and interface where awesome. Many people liked this game too! But still, you do not hear any of the C++ guys say: "hey, that's pretty cool actually". It's time that we prove the C++ people that Visual Basic is a decent game programming language. The amount of time the game runs slower is nothing comparable to the amount of time it takes to write the game in VB vs VC++. So start working on a cool game and try to publish it! I have to add something from my original article: The community is currently a bit fragmented into "relative new" and "the senior" VB programmers, (I wanted to avoid the word 'newbie'). But the community is a strong group. It's time we run something like a 'defragmenter' on the community. I'm trying to do this with small things like the "VB Community Quiz", I've already started on something else, next to Quadrant Wars and VB Fibre (which should be updated when it gets back online =-); but it will be secret for a while... 'Till next time /Almar |
