An Introduction

=========================================================

So you're cruising around on the internet, hitting your favorite VB gaming sites and messageboards. Not much new today... Jack's written his 1023rd tutorial. Another newbie posted 32 pages of code to be debugged. The LuckyCam was updated - is that twice this year? Shcweet. Then you arrive at VoodooVB. Woah, what's this? Peter's created some new column thing. Iiiinteresting. As you check out the names of the esteemed columnists, a certain one catches your eye: MetalWarrior. Well paint your pants and slap your face, you've just GOT to see this. So you click the link - and here you are.

Well ok, so it probably didn't happen quite like that. Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet that you're curious about this column - curious about what kinds of things you'll find in it. (If not, leave before I smack you.) Since that's the case (it has to be or you would have left), I'll take a moment to explain what topics I intend to go over in future installments.

Aside from the typical rants/raves/gripes/whines and other entertaining shenanigans so common among internet columns, you'll also be treated to a fair dosage of my opinions on game design. And let me tell you, I've got plenty of them. Whether it's a discussion of game mechanics, some pointers on storytelling, or a rant on a particular use of cinematics, I've got 'em all. Heck, I might even take a game I hate and rip it apart for you all -- now won't that be fun? In addition to game design, there's the possibility of programming techniques, web sites, or yes, even VB community members becoming topics for this column. So many wonderful things to look forward to... aren't you excited? I'm starting to like being a columnist.

Well, seeing as this is the first column, I'm going to sign off right here. I wanted to use the first article to set it up, to let you know what to expect in the future. That, and I couldn't think of anything to write about by the deadline. I hope you've enjoyed this little introduction, and are intrigued enough to find your way back. Until then, keep coding, and drink much flavored soda.
